Datapedia

The Datapedia describes all the metadata that Shodan crawlers gather. It is the reference document for all information about top-level properties that are available on the banner. These top-level properties contain service-specific information that provide deeper insights into the configuration and deployment of a device.

Note

The banner is the same across all of our products and it contains everything that you see on the website - including screenshots as base64-encoded strings. There isn't a difference in the available data between free users and Enterprise customers.

A few practical examples:

• tags: tags are high-level labels to describe the service.
• screenshot: screenshots are stored as base64-encoded strings. Shodan automatically extracts the text (OCR) and applies labels based on machine learning.
• _shodan: the _shodan property contains information about how the banner was generated which can be helpful in case the service behaves differently depending on the geolocation of the client.
